Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change, Government of India propsed a scheme for assisting the State Governments and Union Territories to develop and disseminate State of the Environment Reports on a biannual basis. The State of Environment Report (SoE) is intended to provide a benchmark for future environmental reporting and also serve as the database for the policy making for the preparation of Environmental Management Plans. SoE Report discusses viable policy initiatives, legislative reforms required for economic well-being. The regular SoE Reporting ensures access to upto date and scientifically accurate information about the environment to all the stakeholders, public, industry, NGO and all levels of Government agencies.
The State of Environment Report (SoER) analyses key environmental issues in Tamil Nadu pertaining to forests and wildlife, biodiversity, land degradation, air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, and solid waste, as well as cross-cutting issues related to agricultural and allied sectors, water resources, energy, coastal resources, and environment and health using the Driver-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) framework. The report is intended to provide a benchmark for future reporting and it also serves as a database for the preparation of environmental management plans. In this respect, the report provides policy suggestions for specific line departments to foster sustainable development in Tamil Nadu.
